How to Run an Ironing Service Part-Time in the UK
Build a small weekly ironing round with clear capacity limits, reliable handovers, repeat customers and prices based on total working time.

A part-time ironing service should fit the hours you actually have. The aim is repeatable paid batches with predictable handovers, not a queue of promises you cannot finish. Start this stage only after you have safely completed and measured small trial jobs.
1. Turn available hours into a booking limit
Write down the hours you can reliably work around employment, caring responsibilities and rest. Separate production from handovers and administration. Keep spare time for mixed fabrics, equipment problems and a batch that takes longer than expected.
Illustration: you have eight hours per week, reserve two for messages and handovers and one for contingency. That leaves five production hours. At an observed 75 minutes per typical batch, book no more than four comparable batches initially. Different garments change capacity. Do not turn this example into a guaranteed weekly income.
2. Make one repeatable service menu
Define accepted garment categories, how you price them, minimum order if any, collection area and turnaround. Explain whether items are returned hung or folded and who provides hangers. Keep laundry, repairs, dry cleaning and specialist garments outside the offer unless separately qualified and equipped.
Use your completed-job timings to calculate prices. A cheap shirt price can lose money if every order includes long journeys or difficult handovers. Show delivery charges and any minimum order clearly before booking. Do not surprise a customer with charges after you have already done the work.
